I understand the concept of shipping early and often when developing software. I am really happy to see the N900 targeted by the Meego group. I was very happy to see a release yesterday. I knew that the release was going to be primitive and not ready for general consumption.

But... I wasn't expecting just a terminal. I thought we would get a basic GUI framework of some sort so that I could start developing an application. Right now I question if that is possible and/or wise because from what I see, a lot of what I need to develop an actual app isn't there, isn't complete or is bound to change as we move forward.

In short, I still can't start developing anything.

Am I missing something ?

It would be really nice if the Meego group gave us a roadmap with a few milestones so that we knew where we are going and when we expect to get there.

Yesterday's release isnt intended for app developers to start developing their apps. It's for OS developers to be able to help crack on with developing the OS itself, so that there's an OS in place to develop apps for.

Qt4.6 apps are pretty much "guaranteed" to work in Meego, so just start developing

I know that you are probably aware of this but it seems the instructions for developers are to get started with Qt for development. As Nido mentioned Day 1 code dump was a simply the start in the open development of the OS bringing Moblin and maemo together officially.

There is a little more info here

Yay, now we might get "less" instead of "more" in the base distro.

Please understand that meego runs on different platforms. You can go to meego bugzilla and check out what kind of problems they have. There is no sense going to GUI level before really basic problems are solved.

Some people can't even bootup their system with meego.

You can develop for Maemo 5 targeting Qt 4.6 API. All that work will be useful for real users now and more real users in the future.
