Here is a little portrait screen I made today, using mostly QBW widgets. You may notice the app icons are still in their landscape form, thats because they are the actual icons and not QBW widgets.

Request:

Can anyone tell me how I can use QBW to create widgets that will launch applications, such as phone, conversations, contacts etc.

Announce:

Also if anyone is interested in creating a similar portrait desktop screen, the HTC style clock is here (just follow instructions):

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=72398

The media player widgets are here (post number 145 on this page, download attachment and create this widget by following the same instructions as the HTC style clock widgets):

Mate why not just use Dr Launch?

It was specifically designed for this problem :P

It will rotate the icons when the device is rotated meaning that the icons work in both portrait and landscape

You can do it pretty easily dbus. Example of opening the phone application:
Code:
dbus-send --type=method_call --dest=com.nokia.HildonDesktop.AppMgr /com/nokia/HildonDesktop/AppMgr com.nokia.HildonDesktop.AppMgr.LaunchApplication string:"rtcom-call-ui"
Just replace the rtcom-call-ui with your application's name to open it.

Thanks! And to godofwar, I don't use drlaunch because you can't use custom icons, only hildon ones. It's very limited.

It might take some time for MAG and others to get it working properly and it's fun to try to do things yourself Thats one of the main reasons I bought n900.

You could also use quick-widgets.

See the example under
http://wiki.maemo.org/Quick_Widgets#...auncher_Button

Save it to a file and load into quick-widgets ticking auto-rotation.
