... from a design perspective ... and keeping theaming in mind ... this would look much better if there were say three set sizes for each icon ... resizing individually would get really messy! ... each icon could have its own settings button (like the widgets currently do) to switch between sizes ...

I really want this for. I have one page filled with contacts and one filled with bookmarks. The bookmarks are far far far too big. Would want them about half the size so I could get twice as many back bookmarks on the desktop. For the contacts I would want them about 2/3rds the current size so I can have more contacts on there.

You guys should read this. http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=52474 It will not do exactly like you want with different sizes but does make it possible with a custom size..
