I'm using xbindkeys to rotate my screen on my N810. I want to use gconftool to change the background when it's rotated so that it redraws correctly. How would I do this?

Some of my backgrounds need to be scaled or stretched as well. Could gconftool set these settings too?

Also, is it possible to change the desktop applets and orientation using gconftool?

I'm not sure that this can be done without killall hildon-desktop.

It seems like it should though, but from what I remember, I wasn't able to do this either.

Your best chance would be to edit

/home/user/.osso/hildon-desktop/home-background.conf

Then ask lma how that can be reloaded without nuking your desktop and forcing it to reload.

Cheers.

I'm not aware of any way to change the background via gconf (in fact I don't see any relevant keys there). There might be some dbus call to do it, but the only one I can find apparently doesn't work :-(

If it can been done by clicking on the Set background image applet thingy, couldn't you just run something like strace to see what program is changing the wallpaper?
