How can I get rid of something like the "User Guide" and "Store" links on the app menu?
I could use AppLocker to hide them but I want them gone for good.

TIA

EDIT: Figured it out. I just deleted the *.desktop files from usr/share/applications/hildon/

You should uninstall the packages, they're not "gone" at all. The user guide can be removed from the App Manager, I tested it. As for OVI, I don't know, I want an OVI link. Should be doable via apt-get remove.

the menu items are populated from /usr/share/applications/hildon/*.desktop

You can remove item that can't be uninstalled from the app manager by removing it's desktop entry. Note that removing the desktop entry will not uninstall the application. If you decide to remove desktop entries, do so at your own risk. I'd suggest moving instead of removing in case you want have something back at some point...

I personally don't mind the few preinstalled things even though I don't use most of them.

there is no need to remove the .desktop file from "/usr/share/applications/hildon", you can just edit the .desktop file and add a new line with; (Hidden=true). also changing true to flase will cause it to show up again

another option will be to just rename the .desktop file of the program you want to hide to something like .desktop1..but i dont know what consequences can this kind off modding have when you have updates both from the programs or the OS...
