Is there a way to disable the notification bubble when receiving a sms/IM/Missed call notification?

I find that when I am using my phone and someone IMs me the bubble pops on the top of the screen and slows down the phone greatly for 2-3 secs

I think it's better if I just get a sound notification and the rest happens in the background

You could have a look in the transitions.ini in /usr/share/hildon-desktop/ and set the notification duration to lower (I've not tried zero) as opposed to the default 400/450.

Look for this bit:

# Transition for notification previews
[notification]
is_cool = 0
duration_in = 400
duration_out = 450

Kind Regards,

You can change libnotify and libhildonnotify (which is what the programs use to display the notifications) to not display certain notifications, depending on contents, sender, etc.
