Not true. SMSCON doesn't rely on sms'es solely - actually, it can (aj\use every possible way of communication. I won't list full set of features here, leaving it as exercise for interested - preferably, to be done before commenting

Of course, if thief remove battery and put device in locker at the ocean's floor for infinity, you're done for it. But prey or any other form of payware service isn't any better in this case.

Still, we have confirmed case, where device was retrieved *months* after getting stolen - when new "owner" started using it. + few other cases with shorter timespan, including ones where victim actually got nice face-front photos of thief thanks to SMSCON

Generally, if one compare feature set, it's prey that look rather obsolete here.

See, even though some community member may have a running client, it wont make it to harbour, simply because it will be rejected as it uses non-jolla libraries.

So, I ask again, where is that anti-theft assistance? You say you rely on thirdparty - like Prey - but, so far, it aint possible (unless you have something in pipeline with the coming release of course)
If you notice http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...96&postcount=5 then you would know that something is in the pipeline coming in some update this year that is not limited to harbour rules . Currently I'm still testing the client in my device and doing some improvements.

And you seems to have a competing solution also avail soon

My version of prey is on my openrepos for you to test.
There is some manual configuration to do after installing the rpm:

/usr/local/share/prey/config

place in /etc/systemd/system/
and enable/start with systemctl start/enable

prey.service

[Unit]
Description=prey as service

[Service]
Type=simple
ExecStart=/usr/local/share/prey/prey.sh

prey.timer

[Unit]
Description=Runs prey every hour

[Timer]
# Time to wait after booting before we run first time
OnBootSec=1min
# Time between running each consecutive time
OnUnitActiveSec=1h
Unit=prey.service

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

I installed perl-CPAN, but i am getting an error that gzip has not option 'q'.

It is save to remove busybox-symlinks-gzip-1.21 and install gzip-1.5 ?

Ok after installing gcc, make ,automake, openssl-devel, perl-CPAN-Meta-YAML, zlib-devel, gzip
and doing
cpan install YAML
cpan install Net::SSLeay
cpan install IO::Socket::SSL
i am still not able to install prey.

Do i have to create rpm packages ? How can i do this?
