(I use habitually the linux version of x11vnc on Ubuntu, and with option -noxdamage I can see an exact copy of the remote desktop, including video and even the amazing effects of beryl/compiz, but this option does not improve things on the n810)

Ooh.. What a pity. I was dreaming about running a vnc client on my laptop, and connect the video output of the laptop to the TV, in combination with controlling mplayer in the tablet via wiimote
[Only as a proof of concept, of course. It is easier to play the movies directly in the laptop
]

Maybe you could set up a streaming media server on your tablet somehow? Dunno if there's software available though....
