Either one I potentially see attached to the back of the N800 with a Velcro tab, and possibly a small power injector.

Hi guys, if I can get my hands on an OTG adapter I'd definitely like to test this on my N800 with a couple of the USB Sprint adapters we have laying around at work. I'll post back at some point when I get a chance.

Just thought I'd mention I have used Novatel Wireless cards from Sprint in Linux before, using the directions posted above as a guideline. Both the S720 and the EX720 with an adapter work great.

How about the att usb 881? It has a battery on board. It would be perfect if it could work with the 800 or 810.

Hi nurse_gal, I'm guessing you would need to get a self powered USB hub at the very minimum, as the USB cellular cards come with a cable that can draw power from up to 2 USB ports at once (and the N8x0 doesn't provide power out the USB port). You'd also need an adapter like this and another like this. With those then the trick would be typing the command 'dmesg' before and after you plug in the USB card and seeing if its probably detected. Finally you would use wvdial or another PPP program to initiate the connection (hints provided at the links in the first couple posts).

I'm about to try a Huawei 3g USB modem (not the 220, not sure which model yet). clearly I'll need a powered hub, has anyone found a battery powered one? I don't want to have to find a powerpoint.

just get a battery powered 3g router such as the cradlepoint one from 3gstore.com. i have one and it works great with the sprint 597 usb aircard. wifi hotspot in your pocket.
