Is there no way that the contact shortcut is made smaller and the corresponding avatar is shrunk to fit the new size? I find the current size too big myself.

I had to resize default avatars for it to fit in the new small frame, so adding custom avatars will be to big and wont fit in the frame.

So basically the avatars needs to be resized manually? hmm...
And do you have any idea where I can find the avatars?
what folder?

BTW: according to the theme/images folder, you said it have to be the same theme I'm using. Are you sure? Doesn't the "default" folder is sym-linked to the current theme folder (or to the "alpha" folder)?

Well if it's only the avatar/default avatar's size that matters, I can write an app that backups the old avatar and resizes the contact's avatars that appear on the desktop.

But for that I need to know where these shortcuts are being saved in order to track them.

once you set the avater there saved in home/user/.osso.abook/photos

the default avaters are in usr/share/icons/hicolor/216x216/hildon

this mod can work with any theme as long as the contact frame is resized in the themes image folder.

I have been looking for a couple of days now. This must be the closest thread for my problem.

I would like to make my application shortcut widgets on the desktop smaller. Right now they are 96px and i want them to be around 48px. I want the desktop to have a more slim look.

I do not know which conf-file to edit. I have found my current themes application bg-pics. I am guessing that changing the size of these will not change the actual size on the desktop, right? Is there a global conf-file for these or is it localized for the theme.?

I am using the humanity-theme right now.

Neatly....

Change desktop contacts shortcuts size

For changing size of desktop contacts shortcuts, go to:
/usr/share/themes/YOUR_THEME/images

Find the contacts widgets frames:
ContactsAppletFrame.png and ContactsAppletFrameActive.png (backup them)

Resize them to your favorite size and overwrite the originals.
------------------------------------

You also have to resize the default and contact's avatars for it to fit in the new small frame.

The default avatars are in:
usr/share/icons/hicolor/216x216/hildon (Backup them and resize only if you use them on your desktop)

The contact's avatars are in:
/home/user/.osso-abook/photos

Probably, here you see the files without suffix, just copy them to your PC, add to them the suffix ".png", find your contact's avatars and resize them.
After this, delete the suffix ".png" and move them back to your phone (overwrite the originals).

Done !

P.S. This mod can work with any theme as long as the contact frame is resized in the themes image folder.

Thanks to biggzy for tips and to omeriko9 for idea

Actually I'm looking too for a way to resize a .png image inside the N900, anyone has an idea for a command line tool to do this?
