More details should be presented tomorrow, but they are developing a "collection of Android systems and frameworks as minimal as possible, built to run on a standard, modern linux system, using as much of the standard system as possible, and created to be Free/Libre from its inception" called Shashlik.

There is a git repository here : https://github.com/shashlik/shashlik

Thanks for the heads up. I certainly like the idea of Plasma returning to mobile (I am running Plasma 5 on my laptop for few months now and it's rock solid), but I noticed two things:
  • I understand that convergence is not an easy task and you can't avoid buttons, but the UI looks like it's been made by an Android user. I'd like to see something more user friendly.
  • Throughout the video, I was waiting to see a multitasking view or a task switcher. I hope that the use of 'Ubuntu Touch technologies' doesn't mean sporting the crippled multitasking as well.

But not to solely criticize: Yay for Wayland and Plasmoids!

I think the first button on the navigation bar calls the task switcher. This forum post has a proposal for the task switcher, but no mention if it was merged.

Huge icons, dated UX, this doesn't seem like they've pulled in a modern IXD at all.

Still looks better than FirefoxOS and perhaps Ubuntu Touch.
