hi all--

I just completed a wiki page on using Slimserver in concert with the Nokia 770
http://www.internettablettalk.com/wi...verAndNokia770

this gives a short explanation of why you might be interested in using Slimserver, and then points to the main wiki howto, which is on slimdevices website
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cg...verAndNokia770

happy to hear your comments,

Thanks Ben. I had left a few posts on how to use Slim Server as well as answers to a few questions, but I think it best to have it formally memorialized in the wiki (which I don't know how to do). I think Slim Server is way better than any of the alternatives I have seen so far for listening to music on the 770.

Ben,

The page you wrote up says:
After Slimserver 6.5 is installed and running, point your 770's web browser to http://server.ip.address:9000/Nokia770/ (replacing server.ip.address with the ip address or domain name for your webserver)
Does this mean Slimserver works only over the web?

Can you use it locally? (Substituting "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" for "server.ip.address")

Thanks,

Roger

The slimserver software runs on a PC (Windows, Linux, Mac) - the address you enter into the 770 is the address of the server. To control the slimserver you use a browser-based GUI interface.

You would have to be running a browser on the server in order for 127.0.0.1 or localhost to work. You do not run the slimserver software *on* the 770.

Trying this now. Anyone notice that the slimserver icon kinda looks like a 770 with it's cover half pulled off?

... "Slimserver starting"... and nothing. It's said that for 10 mins. I don't have a firewall enabled.

I have the same problem.
I had a look at the Windows services, and the Slim Server service didn't start. I started slim.exe with the --logfile option, and the logfile reports

2006-01-21 12:20:02.5686 Can't call method "process" on an undefined value at /PerlApp/Slim/Web/HTTP.pm line 1733.

What does this mean?

Daniel

I had the same problem, but it happened only with the nightly build I was using (01-20). I switched to one of the previous builds (01-14) and it worked perfectly. You can find them here.

6.5 codebase has hit some instability. I think you'll find the Jan 18th build stable:

hopefully the fresh daily builds will restabilize shortly.
