My External memory card (Transcend 8GB class 6) corrupted itself somehow while I was playing my music via Canola. All the songs kept coming up error.

I checked in file manager and my removable card was greyed out so I reseated it and got the error that my memory card was either corrupted or not formatted. I never formatted it prior to installing it and my only way to access the card is via the NIT as I have no SDHC compatible reader. I switched my cards into the other's slot and the External card now in the internal slot was still classified as corrupted or unformatted.

Are their any pointers as to what I should try before I shell out ~$30 bucks for a multi-card reader that is SDHC compatible? I read somewhere on here that it may not be possible to format the card through the NIT in usb mass storage mode and another suggestion was to re-flash the OS. If I backup my NIT to the internal card (another 8GB transcend), could I reflash and then restore and be back to normal? Also, should I have formatted these cards prior to use and if so, what file format is recommended for these NITs?

Edit: I just tried the Format memory card option in file manager and I still get the same result. Judging by the bug 1204 thread, I think my memory card may have been sent to the grave.

Edit X 2: Just backed up and downloaded the latest update 4.2007.38-2 and my removable card is still dead.

The update does not solve anything on your actual card, it just prevents your new one (if you'll ever get one) to corrupt/damage again. I had the same experience with a (luckily smaller) 2GB SD card. Ithought only card >= than 4GB were affected

I guess, it's not the same problem ...
Two times I lost the write access of my 8 GB Transcend Card. Reformatting the card, while my N800 was connected to my WinXP machine with the common windows tools brought my card back.

I have had problems with my 512 SD card on 3-4 occasions; once greyed out and the other times a file and its containing folder became 'read-only' preventing me from saving, changing or deleting anything in that folder. When I then either put my card into my XP machine's cardreader or connected my NIT to my XP machine via the usb mass storage mode my XP machine could see my SD card but I couldn't delete the corrupted file there either; even after deleting it would be listed as a '0' size file, so here is how I was able to solve it:

- With the 'SD card / Removable Disk(F)' selected in Windows Explorer on the Menu click on the 'Properties' icon(red arrow on white background)[or right-click on 'Removable Disk(F)'].
- Once the 'Properties' window has opened click on the 'Tools' tab and here click on 'Check Now'[Error checking - This option will check the volume for errors]
- Check both options in the 'Check Removable Disk' dialog box and click 'Start' . A message will come up saying that due to certain resources being in use Windows can only do this at the next bootup and asking you if you wish to schedule it. Select 'Yes'
- When you reboot Windows you will see the typical blue screen whilst it checks & fixes problems.

This has so far always worked for me but then your card's problems might be different.

Seeing as you have a SDHC card you might need to first load a fix for Windows as described in this thread.

I hope you get your card fixed.

[PS: if the above fails perhaps running Panasonic's SDFormatter might fix it]

Edit: I see 'rok' already made the same suggestion as I was typing this.

I got a SDHC usb adapter and windows could format the card under FAT only because only about 512KB was visible.

I'm fooling around with paragon parition manager now to see if it can force a disc wide format. Oddly enough Paragon detects the ~4GB of used space on the "unmounted" drive which corresponds to the amount of space my MP3's took up.

As far as the fix for windows, originally when I first purchased the two transcend cards from newegg, windows could see both through the N800 in usb mass storage mode, so I "think" I'm fine on that front.

Right now Paragon is "working" and after that I'll give check disk a go and report back. Thanks for the replies so far.

Okay, so Paragon seems to have done the trick and I can now see the full 8GB (really 6) in Windows explorer

Paragon has the ability to format this SD card in FAT32, NTFS, Linux Ext2, Linux Ext3, resierFS and Linux Swap2. Now which one of these (obviously not NTFS) would be the most compatible with the NIT?

It is a good thing Paragon works because when I ran checkdisk it blinked for a second and came back with no errors because it could only scan the initial FAT table of 512KB. Same goes for the SDFormatter suggestion.

New problem. I formatted the card (for now until suggested otherwise) in FAT32 and mounted it as drive L (I have a lot of mapped drives). Well I can access the card's full capacity and write to it, but when I put it in the NIT, it still registers corrupted or unformatted. If I go to the NIT's file manager and internally re-format the card, it is still "corrupted" except now I have to go through the dance again with Paragon to get windows to access it. So essentially, after I stick in this repaired Transcend SDHC 8GB card in the NIT and run a format via file manager, the NIT with the latest firmware re-corrupts the card.

Oh pooh.

Edit: At the moment, the card is functional in windows explorer, formatted as FAT32 with 6.84GB free (all pink pie properties). I made one folder on the card to test write access called "CAN YOU SEE ME NOW". XP sees it, NIT still says the card is corrupted or not formatted. Awaiting any suggestions because my next option is give newegg a ring for an RMA.

Have you enable ext card swap on the NIT, may be un-enable will help, that is what happened to my card, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=11352

Hey, good news for those with corrupted MMC. I took the MMC to a media reader, and erase the swap file. Voila, now my card is writing again! I do not have to reformat the stupid MMC-RS! I do not have to re-do URLs for the Video center. So far, keep the fingers crossed, i am able to write on the MMC. NO. I am scare to create another swap file. I just use the 770 without swap file. Apparantly, a damaged swap file will render your MMC read-only status and prevent writing. Fanoush, mind to shed light on this apparant observation? If, the swap file does make the MMC more vulnerable, I would rather leave it out the first place.

Oddly enough, swap is on the internal card and that has not had any problems. (Crosses fingers).

I am glad that 'Paragon' worked for you.
- In reference to only seeing 512KB would that fix for SDHC cards, mentioned earlier, in this thread not be able to overcome that.
- "it blinked for a second" - for my guide did this happen after checking both boxes and scheduling it to run the next time you restarted your computer [blue screen before opening booting into Windows]?

Nope. Nothing extra happened during my next manual reboot. Phase one went by < 1 second, phase two took about 4 seconds then I got "Disk Check Complete".
