Hi all, while sitting at my desk here, I noticed my old emate collecting dust. Now - this particular emate works fine (other than it's got the screen screw problem - but it's not getting any worse) but I got to thinking...

Buy a dead emate on ebay, gut it, install a bluetooth keyboard, (one of those laptop sized ones I see asiasales doing on ebay a lot) remove the old screen, and install a holder for my 770. I reckon I could cram a USB hub into the space left over while I was there.

Is it possible to charge a 770 from USB? If so, it's one power connector to the hub, and that's it. From the outside, you've got lovely classic Apple design and build quality, and inside you've got a nice keyboard and a fully connected 770.

What do you think? Abomination, or idea?

Well, it would look kinda frankenstein-esk

Sadly I don't think you can power through the USB.

I'm always one for winging it with home-made nonsense, but to be honest, unless you have money to burn, locking a bluetooth keyboard up in an emate case seems a little pointless. It would also take away any benefit of mobility of the 770.

On the flip side, it'd look barmy, which is never a bad thing.

I tried using my old Newton leather briefcase, to hold the 770 and BT keyboard.

Not too practical, it is made for a much larger unit, and the bungy straps are in the wrong places. But it was fun, and a trip down memory lane.

I have an original message pad MP100, and I thought about sticking it in that case, too. Doubt it.
