Yo!

Another little app I decided to write up tonight. This is a program that allows you to control XMMS on a Linux PC over Wi-Fi.

But, as of now, it has the limitations that it cannot be installed at the same time as AirX (I have to work around this, eventually...) and that XMMS must already be running on the PC for MediaMote to control it.

Please tell me of any errors, and if it will not start for some reason, please run it as "mediamote" from the command line and tell me what it says.

Update: Will have to make a separate library package in order to have AirX and MediaMote installed at the same, expect, ehm, soon

The interface comes up, I enter in my credentials (which I hope you now don't have ) and nothing happens.

*Edit: Aaah, looking at the output from the xterm window, it seems it's expecting ssh to be installed. I'll install and try again.

*Edit #2: I had to grab the OpenSSH .install file, edit the repository name (took out the 'i' to use 'repostory.maemo.org' and still no dice).

It's 2am, I'll try again tomorrow. Also, one suggestion. Instead of storing the password (especially plaintext), could you just maybe store the username/IP and force input of the password every time the app is loaded? (That doesn't seem too much of a pain in the butt usability-wise (to me anyway))

*Edit #3: Went to the OpenSSH garage page (which maemo.org downloads entry didn't link to) and found the .deb files. client / server wanted common to be installed, common said invalid type (2007HE)... I'm tired and gonna go to bed.

OpenSSH should be in the Extras repository by default? My tablet (2007HE) had it in the app manager right when I flashed it... That stinks...

Cool! Got it to work, thx! Lot of lag (5 - 10 seconds) when hitting buttons before XMMS does what I want it to though, but still neat! (Had to (obviously) install SSH server on my Ubuntu box too)

Sorry about the lag, SSH is excessively redundant in Python... Have to log in and execute a command each time a button is pressed, but I think I may be able to get it working better eventually, after I start another project I got going in my head Thanks for telling me it works! I was afraid I packaged it wrong ^^'''

MediaMote has been updated to include controls for Volume. Not sure if it will work on all computers, though, it uses Alsa to change the volume of Output PCM. Most comps should have it, though... Oh, it's the same file name and link, please see the first post.
