For what it's worth, Nokia Corporate has a couple of public events this week out in San Francisco where a N770 release might make sense/draw some attention. If they're trying to make a splash somewhere in September, the clock is ticking and this timing/venue seems appropriate.
CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment 2005: San Francisco, September 27-29 -- This show at the Moscone Center will bring together two wireless technology domains: enterprise and entertainment. Visit Nokia at Booth 421.

Our company has been working some back channels to try and establish a VAR relationship with Nokia USA/Multimedia through an old friend who works for Nokia USA/BI. My friend has been diligent in trying to open doors and find out "what's happening" and circulating some information we produced showcasing an application we're looking to bring to market using the 770 (as a replacement for a similar Linux wireless tablet called the FreePad we attempted to bring to market 2 years ago).
In what appears to be some positive news, I got an email today from my contact who received word from someone at Nokia-M/Espoo to relay the following information to me...
"I watched the QuickTime movie your friend provided, this looks great! What I suggest is that 1) if your friend is interested in finding out more about the technology and how to develop SW on the 770, he should visit www.maemo.org website. 2) if he needs products to test, the easiest is to place order at www.nokia.com starting beg of Oct. The product costs 350 US."
