there's a linux packaged called "snoop" I think that lets you eavesdrop on an RS232 connection. If I remember right you simply install snoop on a box with two serial ports and then use it as a "man in the middle". It sits in the middle of the conversation and logs everything from both sides.

i'm pretty sure there is a serial port in the pins next to the battery.

Is that a serial port? I thought it was a jtag. Does anyone have a pinout?

Found here:
set-rd-flags=serial-console = enables serial console (the pins in the battery compartment
didn't find a pinout, but that shouldn't be to hard to figure out.

I think my searching skills suck. I can't find the pinout, just people asking for it. Can you tell me which search terms to use?

I can't seem the find the post either using Search. Maybe I read it in the developer mailing list archives or something.

Unfortunately, I am busy getting ready to move out of state, so I don't have the time to try to find it. It's too bad, too; I wanted to wire my eTrex serially to save money, space, and power.

Wow that's pimp. But then how do we make pins? I'm not soldering to that board. I was just going to go USB host to serial.
