Hi-
Will Clearwire support the Nokia N810 WiMax edition in the future? Their network does seem to support the Mobile WiMax standard and the N810 WiMax edition should be a fairly standard WiMax device. Will Clearwire offer support?

Well, it's mainly owned by Sprint, so that might have effect on the technology decisions.

Does anyone know when they are planning to launch the network?

Robin that is the whole point of the N810 Wimax edition. Im not sure how the subscription will work but Nokia expects it to start rolling out some time in July because they will be releasing the WiMax edition tablet sometime in June. The N810 WIMax edtion was specifically made for that reason. So once Clearwire completes the statewide network for Nokia it will only be available in D.C., Baltimore, and Chicago. If you are not in those areas you will not have access to the netwok.

This has been confusing for me, because I was under the impression that Clearwire's wimax network *was already running.* They seem to be selling modem's and laptop pc cards and supporting them in several areas, such as Seattle for example. Is this just the older "fixed location wimax" or is this indeed "mobile wimax" with handoff between cells? Seriously, am I missing something?

A new joint venture was formed for the mobile WiMax network involving Sprint, Clearwire, Intel, Google and CATV companies. Sprint has 51% of the JV equity, but Clearwire is in charge of the JV.

Yes, I understand that. I'm talking about Clearwire's currently operating network. Is their current network WiMax? mobile WiMax? fixed WiMax? What's the deal?

Almost all of Clearwire's current service areas are based on pre-WiMAX technologies. A few of their markets (I believe Grand Rapids MI is one) are already being converted to 802.16e (aka mobile WiMAX); however I don't know that any have reached commercial deployment. The intention of the new JV with Sprint is a "nationwide" WiMAX network based completely on 802.6e technology.

I've gotten mine to work with Clearwire. I did, however, need to update the firmware for whatever reason before it would even see the Wimax network.

I haven't had luck with any other Wimax provider (I believe Xanadoo is Wimax provider and they're in my area).

How did you get it to work? Are the day-passes still available or is it all monthly-only? I heard that the new 'puck' called Rover was coming out through Clear but the new prepaid day/week/month plans seem to only support that device, not other WiMAX devices.
