If you're running Diablo, click this: http://mikie.dy.fi/maemo/sliderotate-diablo.install
If you're running Chinook, click this: http://mikie.dy.fi/maemo/rotate.install

Then install the respitory rotate, then after it downloads than click on find/search on the apps manager and type rotate.
install plugin for rotate and then go to screen rotate settings,
at the bottom of screen rotate settings. click on (re)install xandar support. it will tell you that it is already installed and if you install it the device will automaticlly reboot and to close all apps.
reboot and you're done.

ok download and install rotate, than the application manager will pop up. it will ask you to install rotate. install it and add the respotory rotate. once you do that, let the application manager finish updating, once it is updated, click on the find button, which is the binocular and it will ask you to search, type in rotate and status bar plugin for rotate will come up. install it and it will ask you to make some settings on the slide rotate settings, open it and at the bottom, it will show (re)install xandar support, click ok on it and you must have an internet connection and must have all apps running closed. once you do that, click ok and wait. it can take up to 20 minutes. once it downloads and installs DO NOT CLOSE THE SLIDE ROTATE SETTINGS AFTER YOU PRESS OK, it will automaticly reboot and you are done

Newbie here. I have not been able to follow these steps.

Here is what I did so far:

1. First, from an SSH connection I did this:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Nokia-N810-43-7:/media/mmc2# mkdir Packages
Nokia-N810-43-7:/media/mmc2# cd Packages/
Nokia-N810-43-7:/media/mmc2/Packages# wget http://mikie.dy.fi/maemo/sliderotate-diablo.install
--07:07:19-- http://mikie.dy.fi/maemo/sliderotate-diablo.install
=> `sliderotate-diablo.install'
Resolving mikie.dy.fi... 85.23.64.42
Connecting to mikie.dy.fi|85.23.64.42|:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: 255 [application/x-install-instructions]

07:07:22 (1.14 MB/s) - `sliderotate-diablo.install' saved [255/255]

Nokia-N810-43-7:/media/mmc2/Packages# ls
sliderotate-diablo.install

2. Then on the N810 I did these steps:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Open Application manager.
From the top menu, select: Application > Install from file
I browsed to /media/mmc2/Packages/sliderotate-diablo.install
I accepted all defaults (clicked "OK" button).
Got a message that sliderotate was successfully installed.

I saw a dialog box with message:
close app manager and run Sliderotatesettings in extras
and press (re)install xrandr-kernel

Not sure how to proceed. How do I "run" Sliderotatesettings? Where is it? It says run it in "extras". Is that a directory? If so, I don't find it.

EDIT: Application Manager now shows that both rotate-sb-plugin and sliderotate are installed. I'm still unsure how to run Sliderotatesettings. It did not automatically come up for me.

I'm stuck. Appreciate any help. I've only had the N810 for 1 day.

EDIT: the instructions here (http://sse2.net/rotate/) seem more clear to me. Are they current? Should I start over and follow those steps? If so, do I need to uninstall sliderotate?

EDIT (again): OK, I got everything installed and set up correctly.

The only problem now is that all the pages (PDF's, web pages, etc.) do not fit well on the screen when it is rotated. For example, I can no longer go to the next pages of PDF documents by tapping the right side of the screen. Apparently the activation area is too far too the right (off the screen). Tapping on the left side still brings up the previous page. Basically, I cannot read PDFs in portrait mode, and this is the real reason I wanted the rotate feature. What are the options to resolve this? Thanks

There are no ways to fix this yet but probably in the future, there will be a fix to this

Ladies and Gents, my suggestion is that you use the instructions on the wiki:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Rotation

I think sliderotate may not have been updated to latest OS version.

Thank you. I would like to try those steps in the wiki link you provided. What is the best way to do it now that I have installed sliderotate? Should I uninstall everything and begin fresh? If so, how do I uninstall everything that I installed in this thread above?

Thanks for the help!

I have decided to remove the screen rotation feature. What is the right way to do this? I hope I do not need to flash my tablet. Thanks.
