The Theme Maker seems to be a rather simple sofware, it just packages together the custom icons and backdrops. Does anyone know how easy it would be to edit other UI elements, such as buttons, font colors, loading bars, etc.?

No, you're mistaken. Read the blog post again:

Not only can you convert the buttons, toolbars, all the widgets, but TM themes also convert the fonts, the icons and bacground images.
