Developers will be able to target the Nokia N900 and upcoming Maemo and Symbian devices.

Espoo, Finland - Nokia today announced the creation of the official Qt port to Maemo 5 and published an initial Technology Preview release. This port to Maemo 5 means that developers can now use Qt to target the upcoming Nokia N900 device and also ensures that applications can be easily ported to all Qt's supported platforms including the next Maemo 6 release as well as Symbian and Windows Mobile.

I'm a bit surprised that this hasn't received a bit more hubbub over here. For all the complaining that folks did when they were told that Qt would be pretty much Maemo 6 and beyond, I would think that many of the more vocal developers would just be here yelling and whooping.

Then again, I'm no developer, they could all be head-down playing with the port, seeing how much it will take for their apps to come over. Which would be my reason to whoop

Oh yes, smart move. After dabbling with a bunch of "frameworks" with Python bindings through the years (pygame, wxPython, pyGtk etc.), I recently undertook a major project in PyQt (on the desktop), and have found Qt several orders of magnitude above all others in terms of functionality and ease of use.

I don't get it - didn't the beta SDK for maemo5 already support Qt? I did compile a few Qt apps with it, and they worked...

or is this about support for the latest Version of Qt, 4.6? or about hildon-bindings for Qt?
The Nokia press release doesn't state any of this explicitly, only that qt is now available, which i believed was the case already...

Maybe this thread can be merged with timoph's earlier links on http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=342404 ?
