Maybe in your location, maybe unsecure wifi and compatible 3g are plenty available. But not in all locals (or any that I am aware of) is that true.
Furthermore, bumping a thread dissing what the OP asked is not nice.

I don't use wikipedia that much to justify this but I think I'll download this and see if I can't convert it to a format easily accessible on the NITs.

I know i would.
Openmoko have just launched a $99 ereader device preloaded with wikipedia on microSD cards:

How feasible would it be to just buy the microSD card and use it on an n900 via a offline wiki reader application?
I would pay for this given the convenience, because although there are free ways of achieving the same end, building a database for 3m articles apparently takes forever.
What do you think?
