Okay. So here's the latest version of Scid that's now available for testing.

Save all of these files and put them into a folder on your memory card named Scid.

Enable extras in the application manager and after that is done, open Xterm and copy and paste this into it.

cd /media/mmc1/Scid
dpkg -i tcl8.5_8.5.8-1_armel.deb
dpkg -i tk8.5_8.5.8-1_armel.deb
dpkg -i libsnack2-alsa_2.2.10-dfsg1-9_armel.deb

dpkg -i scid_4.0-maemo2_armel.deb

Scid is a little buggy at the moment especially in regards to the analysis engine. It was pretty stable on his first release but something happened to it since then and I can't find a pattern to why it's crashing all the time.

Anyway, it's best if you were to install Bash2 from the app manager and launch it directly from Xterm for the time being.

So just open up Xterm and type
scid

If anything bad should happen, press the "home" button hardware key and close out Xterm.

Here's my option setting to help with the screen layout since it's not all that easy to configure correctly.

It goes into the folder /home/user/.scid/config

The default layout is for landscape mode.

Windows --> Restore layout 2 is for portrait mode. With this setting, change the Chessboard size to 8.

I'm currently looking into having much better sounds than what this comes packaged with.

After that, I'll see if there are better fonts as well.

In the meantime, if you see any patterns where certain things are broken with this application, please feel free to post though I'm not all too sure if Ukki will try and fix them.

Yes, this works fine for me. Note that this an ancient version of Scid from 2004. There are versions from 2009 that include the ability to play on FICS.

Hey, does anyone know of a trick to keep the entire program running in full screen?

While
wmctrl -r scid -b add,fullscreen
will get the main screen displayed fully, any of the additional screens within the program defaults back to windowed mode making it very difficult to see everything correctly.

Any answer to this would be greatly welcomed!

I think that this version comes from Ubuntu, which unfortunately doesn't use the newer version, though it is perfectly legitimate.

I wish that user free was still around.

Getting the latest release is no problem, it's at scid.sourceforge.net.

But that's not for the ARM processor. It has to be compiled for ARM, and changes have to be made for the ARM environment, whatever they are.

On the installation, one can cd to the scid folder and ls, to list the folder to be sure there are the files, one can then install with dpkg -i *.*

During installation, I think I see python downgrade to.... not quite sure what is that. other than that, it runs fine.

Well, if you want all of the features and fluff from the latest September '09 release, I guess you could always go stupid and use VNCViewer for now.

Scid has a really neat option where you can save your Windows layout.

So basically, you just need to position it on your computer screen once to permanently get a good display on the tablet.

It works very well except for I haven't quite found a really good way for the game clock to show when playing a match over at FICS.
