I ordered my N900 and have a quick question. I am living in Korea and wondering if this phone will work. Here is the GSM report for Korea (see link).

The USA specs on the N900 says:

Optimized for WCDMA 900/1700/2100
Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900
Optimized for 3G networks on WCDMA 900/1700/2100 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900

HSPA: "Standardized by 3GPP, HSPA is the set of technologies that defines the migration path for 3G/WCDMA operators worldwide."

SInce Korea uses 3G/2100 HSPA it leads me to believe it might work? Thoughts? Anyone else know better? Any koreans on here? I can't find much on the US websites and most cell phone companies don't have english speaking.

Yes, it will work with 2100 band in Korea. To my understanding Korean 3G is same as in Europe

I guess you can take any phone to the KCC (equal to the FCC in the states), pay 300,000 won ($280 roughly) and they will test your phone. If it works with their networks, they will give you a certificate that you can take to the cell provider and they will set you up. Korea is strict in allowing phones. They register every IMI number (or whatever that number is) with the government.

Also, if this helps, the Iphone works here.... It was also approved by the KCC. Not sure if the Iphone and N900 operate on the same frequencies. I'll check (i just thought about that).

I think they use: 1750mhz - 1770mhz to send, 1840-1860mhz to receive. And their KT service uses 2.15ghz-2.17ghz HSDPA

Also same as NZ vodafone.. 3G. But not with Telecom XT 3G. I think NZ 3GXT is 1900Mhz, Vodafone is 2100Mhz

Well, I will pay the $200 and let you know how it turns out.

Does anyone know if a WCDMA 1900 version would ever be released?
