I have just stumbled upon a nice forum claiming tho have runing worms armageddon onto linux.

http://lookias.inventforum.com/viewforum.php?f=8

As far as I can tall the installer/launcher app is very intuitive and does not require wine.

If there are any interested developers please try to contact the author and maybe compile a build for maemo.

I'm a great fan of this game, please try and make it possible!

Best regards,
Bec

It uses wine, or at least wine libraries. Furthermore, it would require x86 emulation. Sorry. There are similar games for Maemo, however.

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?

I know wormux but it's just not the same as worms.

About x86 emulation? Can't we compile it for ARM if we have the source code?

All signs on the forum you linked to suggest it's a compatibility hack for worms to work with wine. I don't think this is a complete engine, which is what would be needed to compile for arm.

well I read somwhere that it is standalone and provides easyer config than wine. But it is obvious that some wine libraries are used.

Is there really nothing we can do provided we would have the source code AND that the 'app' does not fully rely on wine?

Dos version of Worms may work with dosbox

Yeah but the dos version doesn't compare with worms armageddon.

There are basically three possible scenarios.

The first is that the guy rewrote the entire engine for Worms (which is not as absurd as, say, the many failed projects trying to do the same for Starcraft). In this case the source could be modified and compiled to give you his version of the game with the original content on the N900 if you have the content. He never makes this claim and if it was the case his project would probably be named differently and more popular. It also wouldn't mess around with wine. At all.

The second is that he hacked improved compatibility into wine. Having not tried Worms on straight wine, i can't say how necessary that would have been. In this case, wine and an x86 emulator would probably be required on the N900. (Ie not really very practical).

The third is that he modified the executable to run directly in linux given a few wine support libraries compiled in to execute the win32 binary--basically "wine lite". I've never seen anyone do this, but i guess it could probably be done. Also would require x86 emulation to run on N900.

If wormux isn't good enough, i suggest you work with the developer to improve it.

Well I was hoping it tis the third variant... but anyway x86 emulation is probably something I can keep dreaming of since it ain't going to happen and if it does, the performance would be forever crappy... I was thinking that porting the partial wine.engine would be enought to get it runing, but I'm surely wrong.

Wormux is a very nice game but it's still it's not worms... the feeling just isn't there :|

Provided I have the source files for some linux app, how do I compile it for arm?
A place to start would be nice
