Open a terminal and type: apt-get update
Look for some errors in the last lines of the output.

Without knowing the errors is hard to guess, but should be some problem with your network connection (proxy, custom settings...), but never a HW problem, I guess

ok i managed to start updating the phone by apt-get update and was succesfull.
when i try again to install any app (i have tried with bounce just to see the error.) the error i receive is when it tries to unpack bounce...
error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/bounce_1.0.0_armel.deb
dpkg-deb subprocess paste killed by signal (broken pipe)
sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

@pokernemesis, mele:

Make sure you've closed the application manager before trying to apt-* anything, as you can't lock something that's already locked. Theoretically that should fix it...
