i've tried the "mad developer" solution. it didn't work. however, during the process, i've learnt to uninstall the RNDIS driver from Windows completely while testing different versions of the driver, so that when i tried the method in http://pc-connectivity.garage.maemo.org/ again, i had a "clean" environment to do it in. and as you can guess reading up to this point, i can get USB networking working with the method in http://pc-connectivity.garage.maemo.org/ again i.e. i can ping and ssh between the N900 and the XP. it works again probably because i chose the right inf file, the one in diablo_kernel_usbnet_windows. i haven't tried the other ones (another linux.inf and the one for 770) to verify that though.

i've also successfully setup Windows' internet connection sharing to the N900. for that we need to change the default 192.168.2.* subnet used by N900 USB networking to 192.168.0.* because Windows' internet connection sharing will force the sharing ethernet interface (the one connected to the N900) to have the IP 192.168.0.1.

now it brings me back to the point of setting up the DUMMY network for other maemo apps to use. i tried libicd-network-null last time but it didn't go well. i'm just wondering if libicd-network-null or libicd-network-dummy is more reliable.

i connected my N900 to my PC so that the driver showed up in Windows' Device Manager. i then right-clicked and uninstalled the RNDIS network adaptor. then i did this http://winhlp.com/node/199 to remove it completely.

Actually, I thought i found it in extrasp-devel, as i saw it listed there on my PC, but when i tried to install on my phone, I couldn't find it.

So I don't have it working yet. And didn't have time yet to touch it.
