Is there any way to go 'Back' when browsing in portrait mode in the browser? Only way I can see is to go back to landscape.

I slide up the keyboard, but only in little steps so that I can press the back button without making the Browser think that I've opened the keyboard. That said, shortcutd has an option to allow for a half-press of the shutter button to be interpreted as "back" in the browser.

I thought to try this before but couldn't manage it - will try again.

I'll go for the ShortcutD solution. It works fine for me.
