If only my Cannon 350D had IR and it worked with that!

You can do it easily with the "shutter" widget available in extra. Works well with my D90.

It's based on LIRC and the timings of the ML-L3 remote control : See http://www.bigmike.it/ircontrol/.

Does this mean it could work with the Canon EOS 400D as that has IR for the remote?

Yes. You just have to set your own timings.

Can you provide any more details on this can be used for a different brand? not sure what you mean about "set your own timings"

Guys, at least read my original blog entry - then you might understand.

The hack isn't controlling the SLR - that's shutter as calvin says.

The hack is combining it with code to strobe the flash on the N900 so I can use the n900 as a wireless flash.

Poor journalism from gsmarena there...

I love this hack! Here's hoping you either get this integrated into Shutter, or post it as an independent app.
