Look at the videos at:

http://franciscoalecrim.com/blog/201...mbedded-alpha/

It looks great and there are even flashable images:

I am new to the NIT world, just got a used n810, so if anyone could explain how to flash it ...

You can flash the same way as the the flash images of Maemo, however you have to prepare a flash image yourself because it contains some parts which are not officially distributable. Here you can find some instructions:

http://dev.openbossa.org/trac/mamona.../RunningMamona

You can also try some of the precompiled rootfs-only images but sound is not supported with them and I don't know how they can be installed.

I've just tried Mamona and I think from developers point of view it is very promising. From users perspective however it is not yet very usable. The interface seems somewhat slower than Maemo and (to me) it seems optimized for devices with larger screen.

Thank you for the reply.

But did you try the 0.3 image?
The instruction link you posted is for 0.2 and the 0.3 blog entry says:

* N8×0 Wlan working with opensource driver(stlc45xx)

* N810 sound working with opensource driver (OMAP ASoC) and ALSA changes

So I guess the information on the 0.2 page are outdated.

You are right. I tried 0.2. The window manager was enlightenment. Now I tried the Qt variant of 0.3 but I was unsucceccful, I suppose I did something wrong - after the flash my n810 never booted. I read that it will take time to generate a ssh key but I waited a long time and during this occasionally the screed did some weird things so I decided not to risk to broke the machine.

Hmm, did you flash the kernel also? Or just the rootfs image?

I just got my n810, so I am new to everything. Thats why I didnt want to risk anything and tried to boot from the internal "card" like I did with mer - but it did not work (seems to boot for a while, than reboots).

I am not impressed with diablo, that why I look for an alternative. I hope Mamona to become one. Please let me know if you make some progress with testing.

I just discovered Mamona today, it looks great and more stable than mer.
Can it run diablo or ubuntu packages yet? (or ever?)

Ill be giving it a try soon on my n810.

This page seems out of date: http://dev.openbossa.org/trac/mamona/

Same here. Never heard of it until today. Sounds really exciting. Since Meebo (to me) caused so many issues with the progress made for an alternative N810 OS, I am happy to see this come above. I'm just not clear on what apps you'd be able to use.

Does Meego run in the N8X0 devices? I thought it was N900 only.
