I'm looking for a simple gps daemon that would always run in the background, would work offline, would use a minimal amount of battery, and record gps data on configurable intervals into a file. This would be very nice when doing long travels to afterwards draw your route on a map and see exactly where you were at a given time.

This is a very good request. I would like to have a battery-saving gps tracking daemon for long hiking or cycling tours.

The output format should be nmea data directly from the gps receiver and every other battery consuming things should be off (display, wlan, gprs,...)
