some info I compiled recently : as the current known solution involves killing the (closed source) bme process, which manages the whole charging process, they are now looking into writing a replacement kernel module to allow safe charging, taking into account temperature and lots of other conditions. We all want a safe, charging device, don't we ...

If the nokia lawyers were less strict and allowed bme to be opened up then faster progress could be made. Alas ... It will take time before all pieces of the jigsaw fall together to make a full (alpha or beta) responsible release.

Please give them the time. Progress is made daily !

ps. I'm not personally helping out with the efforts, my time for that is long gone, so no need to ask me more

good point! even if you're not a developer, you can help us
by voting for https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9314
to open-source BME (or at least to give some community developers access to
be able to collaborate with Nokia experts).

@itsastarman
who is 'the other ones' involved in the USB Host effort (as real OTG wont be possible dut to missing hardware pin linkage, unless history proves me wrong) ?

To me, the titan kernel (apart from some glitches a few weeks ago ...) is the kernel to have on the n900. He's heavily involved with the t.m.o. group to get all patches needed into his kernel.

So unless i see real new progress from people outside the t.m.o. group, not just copying a half-working solution, then I consider the t.m.o. group leading.

So give them the time. Please.

Voted.

@itsastarman: who cares who makes it work, as long as it works? Why does this bother you?

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?

It would be helpful if some of you'd put the bug on your signature (mine's a little crowded) to gather more votes.

Vote to speed up development of USB host mode/OTG!
