The Death of the Open Web The New York Times Magazine. takes a poke at the sterile web app. market, and reminds me what I like so much about Meamo. All in all I can't express how I need some basic productivity applications (on my n900) to keep me from moving to the fresh cut grass of the sterile suburbs.

That is an interesting write up with some truths to it... but they're forgetting that the iphone/ipad have one of the best implementation of mobile browser out there (ui, rendering, performance, etc.... and no, contrary to popular belief, the web isn't 100% made of flash).

Especially for mobile browsing requirements (time, interface, bandwidth constraints).

MAEMO.ORG is a teeming commercial city. It’s haphazardly planned. Its public spaces are mobbed, and signs of urban decay abound in broken links and abandoned projects. Malware and spam have turned living conditions in many quarters unsafe and unsanitary. Bullies and hucksters roam the streets. An entrenched population of rowdy, polyglot rabble seems to dominate major sites.

Thats better lol.
