Im using titans-kernel from extras-testing and

1) virtual-keyboard works
2) Pressing and holding works.

So, try reflashing to discard a software problem

Nop. There are two levels of reflashing

rootfs is your one. You only lose your installed applications, but they come back when you install them again. You dont lose your configurations, contacts, sms, MyDocs data.

vanilla emmc. This becomes AFTER rootfs and erases everything. You dont need this.

Could you please check if virtual keyboard is enabled in Settings->Text Input?

if it's enabled there, could you please post output from these commands here? (you need to run them from X-Terminal)

Code:
gconftool-2 -a /apps/osso/inputmethod
gconftool-2 -a /apps/osso/inputmethod/default-plugins
