My N800 had been working great with a Belkin Pre-N wireless router with WPA encryption. I then moved to North Carolina. Had to leave the Belkin at home, and now have a D-Link N wireless router. The N800 can't "see" any networks. I also have a Linksys A+G router hooked up as an access point to the D-Link.

The N800 still can't "see" any networks. My Xbox 360 sees all the networks, and has no trouble connecting - so I am sure its the N800.

I have tried to change things through Tools->Connectivity for "WLAN" connections and "Any connections" - still my N800 is blind.

Whatever help could be provided would be great.

Are any of the networks hidden - ie. not broadcasting their SSID?

None of the networks are "hidden" or "invisible". The Xbox 360 can find all three (N, G and A), as well as two of my neighbors (both are locked - not that I would steal . .. .). So it is like the N800 is blind to all the networks - it could see before and was quite sensitive - even when traveling and linking to hotspots in hotels and airports- but now it is blind?

I tried the reset (removing the battery) - no luck. N800 still blind
Do you think it might be bricked - a hardware issue?

Love the N800 - but it is helpless if it can't see networks

Have you tried flashing, and not restoring any of the previous settings? I would, before giving up completely.

BTW, I think that "bricked" means totally inoperative,not just blind...

Is the old Belkin network listed in the connections menu?

Just because the 360 can find/see these networks does not mean they are not hidden - it seems that devices running Microsoft operating systems are quite adept at listing even hidden networks, while the N800 plays by the rules and refuses to list hidden networks.

If you haven't already done so, check your wireless router config to make sure the SSID is being broadcast.

YYYYep. The N800 goes blind on a lot of draft n networks. Its a funky bug for sure. It does
it consistantly on my Airport when not in WPA2 mode. It's not isolated to mine either,

It must be a bug with the Draft N routers.
The Pre-N Belkin is about 9 hours north (just moved) - but it recognized it the morning before I moved. It actually say some networks here in North Carolina - but then stopped seeing networks altogether for no apparent reason.

The D-Link draft N is definitely not hidden, and is broadcasting the SSID.
I reflashed the N800 with the latest operating system.
Still no luck.

I also got a Linksys A+G router working (shocking, but true) - and the Nokia still couldn't see it (the Xbox 360 could see both channels) - but this may not be the Nokia's fault (that linksys has always been a little squirrely)

I tried switching to "WPA2 only" on the router - no luck, and the xbox 360 couldn't connect with WPA2 only - so back to WPA.

What is encouraging now, though, is that the N800 can see my neighbor's WiFi (one locked with WPA, two unlocked). So I hooked the Linksys A+G back up to the D-Link router to act as an access point; and the xbox 360 can see and connect to both the A and G networks; but the nokia . .. is blind again and "No connections available". My neighbors may have turned theirs off - but I am definitely broadcasting as evidenced by the 360

Very strange. Well, maybe Nokia will include the ability to link with a draft N router in the next upgrade. Otherwise, I will have to wait a few months until I can get the Belkin Pre-N router down to North Carolina to use the Nokia again.

Any other suggestions would be very appreciated.

Whoops. My last post got a bit messy.

Just to clarify. The N800 cannot see ANY networks if its in range of an incompatible draft n network. I mistakingly thought mine was defective and shipped it to Nokia for repair. That was a nice 2 month mistake.

I'll get around to submitting a bug report unless there is one already. I hope its something that gets fixed in the next firmware.

I would advise that you open a bug in bugzilla as Kalle (who maintains the WiFi functionality for Internet Tablets) seems pretty keen to ensure as broad compatability as possible, and Wireless N devices will no doubt become more common in future. I've not seen any 802.11n specific bugs in bugzilla.

It may already be too late for the next firmware though (I'm assuming 6 weeks to QA and a late June release as Skype is due in Q2).
