Hello,
My apologies if this has been discussed before, but my searches have been fruitless.
I bought an N900 last week. The phone icon on my primary desktop has disappeared. I may have accidentally x'ed it out while editing the desktop. The problem is that it no longer shows up on the add shortcut list when I edit the desktop. The icon still shows when I search for apps or navigate to it.
I've powered the unit down and the status hasn't changed.
My skills with the terminal are extremely limited (working on it though).
Any advice?

Are you sure, the phone shortcut isn't covered by another
desktop widget?

Maybe the shortcut is already present in another desktop, maybe you moved it instead of deleting it... Same situation happened to me the other day.

I think you can't have the same shortcut in different desktops... well at least using the ui

You are correct! I installed a calender and the icon appeared over the phone.

In slightly more technical terms, it stops all hildon-home processes: Which is basically a large part of your home screen / desktop activity. Because the Maemo OS isn't meant to run without the home screen, killing the processes causes them to restrart. I think the word refreshes is misleading - it fully restrarts the processes responsible for your home screens.
