Hello All,

I know the USB problem isn't new (I've searched a read through a lot of posts on it) but I seem to have a peculiar problem that no one has addressed. Please be patient with me as I just joined the forum.

My N900 has been working fine for almost a year and I have been careful with the USB port. But recently, the battery was flat and the device wouldn't charge anymore - either via the wall charger or USB to PC.

The phone did not drop neither is the USB port broken - at least physically (it was perfect till the battery went flat).

I charged the battery using another phone and re-inserted it to my phone. It came on and worked fine except that plugging the USB to PC wouldn't work. Both Linux and Windows desktops won't see it - not even an alert that a USB device is connected to the desktops. Also, the wall charger is not charging the phone battery.

I tried reflashing the phone (thinking it was a software error) but I get stuck at

Suitable USB device not found, waiting

Following the the procedure (While holding the u key, connect the N900 to your computer via USB. Wait until you see a dim screen on your N900 with a Nokia logo in the middle of your screen with an USB icon in the top right corner) described in the Upgrading the tablet firmware page, I successfully get the device to the flash mode, but the systems do not see it.

Please, what else can I do?

Perhaps a solder crack has developed; it can be just as if the whole assembly detached.
Does
Code:
 lsusb
in a x-terminal show a usb device? You may need a repair ....

Hi,

I just had the same problem with my N900. I took it to Nokia Care and they send it to get fixed. In two weeks I got message the phone is ready to pick up. They gave me new device instead of fixing the old one. I hope this helps.

Thanks Opa.

I guess I have to take mine to Nokia Care too. Problem is I bought it in US and I am currently in Nigeria. I hope the warranty extends to another country.

Anyway, thanks.

Sorry for delay - the output of "lsusb" simply means your usb sub-system is present and as far as the OS is concerned, functional. I think it tends to point to a hardware problem as I mentioned: cracked solder /connection. How long is your warranty.... good luck to you...

Okay. Nokia Care it is then.

My warranty is one year, I think, and it expires this January. Will take it there ASAP.

Thanks for your assistance.

My phone was 13 months old and they didn't even ask when it was bought. There shouldn't be any problem with waranty.
