since i got my N900, almost a year back the ubuntu 9.04 is still in WIP state??!!

When/if it comes, it'll be a community based endeavor, not officially supported and as of today, it's still a work in progress.

April is when MeeGo 1.2 comes out, until then, 1.1 is installable on the N900. Just... that I wouldn't suggest it as your main OS due to features and applications being largely unfinished.
