New laptop hard drive so new installation of windows (still have old hard drive available)

I can connect through mass storage mode and bluetooth to ovi suite.
however I cannot conect to ovi suite or pc suite through the cable. In device manager it says it's Nokia n900 usb phone parent. however it does have a yellow exlamation mark which I haven't been able to fix. uninstalling and reinstalling driver gives this error:
WIndows cannot start this hardware device because it's configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
wondering what to do or if anybody can supply me with correct registry information. would flashing kernel on phone help?

also when i connect the usb it says insufficient power cannot charge or somehting like that. never used to do that on old windows installation.

Did you try to reinstall Ovi suite?

Or the Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver?

yeah i guess when windows recognizes the device it increases the power. it should really charge in mass storage mode though. does that not work either?

this is for 64-bit windows only

tried both. still doesn't work.

regarding the charging thing. doesn't charge on mass storage mode either.

will have a look at those registry files

EDIT: updating registry didn't work. also the device manager still sees device as having driver issues.

possible to download the driver from somewhere?

if its not charging in mass storage mode, that is really suspicious.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Connectivity Cable Driver
try to run the exe file: setupextcmbx64.exe
that might reinstall it
or try sfc /scannow from command prompt, it should also verify and reinstall corrupted drivers.

that setup file doesn't seem to do anything.
running sfc /scannow ... will update when it finishes

yeah it looked too simple to work :P
the inf files there will reinstall the drivers if you point the new hardware wizard to that folder though. but you have to delete the other copies of the files from the drivers cache or whatever the hell. god i hate windows...
i suppose you already tried another usb port, might be worth trying another computer too. hmmm. you could install vmware and try another virtual copy of windows if you only have one machine. waste of a friday night though

sfc /scannow did not show any errors

also uninstalling the driver and pointing to that folder for the new driver doesn't work. still shows an error.

not sure how i would go about clearing the driver cache.

hmmm okay well never mind that it's a pain in the *** for so many files anyways.
try the registry stuff again, i updated it. it was wrong before. i pasted controlset001 instead of currentcontrolset.
also try deleting that registry section first
just open regedit and navigate to the exact location and delete the {4F919108-4ADF-11D5-882D-00B0D02FE381} folder. its the same stuff you are about to merge in, so its safe to do. but if there is some extra junk in yours its the only way to get rid of it. this is actually what microsoft says to do on their crappy troubleshooting steps.
