Hi everyone

this is my 1st thread, and hope very much to get help to my problem

I am trying to install midnight commander and fail due to that libncursesw5 is missing

when trying to install libncursesw5 I get the result that it is not available but referred to by another package

I have added all possible repositories extra testing & diablo but fail to install libncursesw5

any help?

you say that you enabled the diablo repostiory.
do you have a N8x0?
if so, on the MC page it expressly says Maemo 5 (Fremantle, thus)
chances are that the dependencies will not work out :|

for mc on N8x0 you can try mc_4.6.2~git20080311-4_armel.deb instead.

sort of, yes, just making sure you have the most recent version (PR 1.3, thus)

next question is which repositories (aka catalogues in AppMan parlance) do you have?
i can't think of any sensible reason why you should have a diablo repo.

could you post the output of
more /etc/apt/sources.list.d/hildon-application-manager.list
(as [quote] rather then [code]) ?

appreciate that

did you by any chance install the package rootsh?

if so, start an X terminal and try
BusyBox v1.10.2 (Debian 3:1.10.2.legal-1osso30+0m5) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

~ $ root

BusyBox v1.10.2 (Debian 3:1.10.2.legal-1osso30+0m5) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

Nokia-N900:~# apt-get install mc

yes I have rootsh and tries to install midnight commander from terminal and application manager, but I always fail with this mentioned file missing

I have even downloaded the .deb file from meamo's repository online:
libncursesw5-dev_5.4-3.osso1_armel.deb
but get the answer: incompatible application package

weird, isn't?
