Usually you would need a WiFi router in between.
I managed to WiFi access my IP Camera at my door trough the web browser accessing my NAS's Surveillance Station.

there used to be an Mplayer widget that you could wirelessy watch webcams with. But yes you do need some kind of wireless connection.

smartcam works for lan
I was wondering if there is any app that can display picture/video from a wireless camera. For example if you buy a wireless camera that is in the car when you put your shift in reverse. So if you place your wireless camera in your back bumper and then the n900 can be used to display the picture/video from this camera. Hope I explained well what I was thinking of.
