How do I restrict N9 email client to only download last x number of emails or only unread emails or both?

You cant do that... If you use MfE you are given an option at first sync the last how days/weeks of emails you want...
On other mail accounts you can only choose full messages, + attachments or only headers... In this account at first sync the past 1 week's emails are downloaded with an option to get more messages...
