I've been looking for something that will cover and enclose the unit, leaving the buttons/screen open (no plastic over it like a cell phone) when I open the case.

There are/is a nice (seemingly) one on eBay - but what have you all found?

Check out the leather case from Proporta. I've got one. It looks great, and it has an aluminum stiffener in it to protect the screen when it's closed. About the only thing I don't like about it, and this is really a minor quibble, is that it's a tad cumbersome to get the stylus out of its slot. Otherwise, it's ideal for my purposes.

I have a CarryMobile leather case and it's OK. It's a bit bulky, but quite handy to use. I had to trim some of the leather off near the screen because it was in the way. Note that you have to open the rear flap to access external memory card and USB port.

I got a Case Logic for my N800. Think someone else recommended it ages ago in another thread. It's not for N800 but it fits great in the plastic arms, has an inner stiffened part to protect the screen and room for business cards etc. There's also a stylus holder so you don't have to get it out of the siide. Using the camera might be difficult though.

I think the part number is PLT-2 or 0 85854 01441 0. It is bulky but then I have a handbag to carry it round in lol

I've got a leather case by Boxwave. It leaves all the buttons, speakers, and screen open. I like it because even with the Boxwave case on, it can then fit in the original Nokia glove case and protects the screen when I transport it.

i have noticed DELL of all stores, is selling some N800 accessories including like 3 different leather cases. they also sell N800 and Nav Kit. and cables and such

I'm using an OtterBox model 2000 that only had padding on the bottom so I placed the N800 softcase that came with it in the lid. It fits perfectly, is water & shock proof. Not exactly what you were looking for but it's worth a mention since it's a good fit!

I use the Otterbox also for my N800 storage when I'm packing it for traveling, and am very pleased with it, but differ somewhat on your description. On my 2000, there is the same built-in padding on both top and bottom. The N800 shifts a minute but acceptable amount when put in the case without the provided soft sleeve, but when the N800 is inserted in the sleeve, then put in the 2000, the fit is snug, and the N800 is highly protected. I expect it could survive dropping from quite a distance -- even into water.

However, I have ordered the recently-offered Nokia-brand case for use when I want to keep the N800 in my pocket ready for use, especially when listening to music or audio books via Bluetooth headphones with Kagu.

I'll cast a second vote for the Proporta case, it does a great job in protecting the N800 while leaving features very accessible and providing a stand. The stiiffened front cover ensures the N800 fascia doesn't suffer that gradual abrasion common with many types of cover, case or sleeve.

The only time it's necessary to take the N800 out of the case is when I need to use the USB port.
