That might be worth a look - I've always liked the HTC devices and it looks like they've finally reached a decent screen res. But I'm not sure that I could go closed-source again...

The OS is meh, but I think the design and specs are great.
Here's hoping openmoko and\or mobile ubuntu will run on it and able to use all the hardware features.

Indeed. Not so fussed about the integrated GPS, I'd rather use a dedicated TomTom device, but VGA out! That would be nice. Especially if it would upscale to a proper monitor resolution, 1024x768 even.

microSD is not a good idea. A device that size could easily go full-size SD, which would a) let it use high-capacity SDHC, and b) be compatible with the full MMC/SD family (micro, mini etc.). And, as always, I can't stress how much I enjoy having two SD slots: One for 'permanent storage' (getting my 16GB card now that the corruption problem's apparently solved), and the second slot for inserting cards from my camera, my sound recorder, other people's cameras, and some other devices I own.

Other than that, the omni doesn't look too bad.. I would replace the OS however.

It is a very slick design.

Looking closer, it doesn't seem to have built-in flash storage.. so, what is it using as filesystem? Too bad if it's using a RAM disk, as windows mobile PDAs do..

I don't like the glossy stuff. Just gets to dirty after a short period of time. I'd prefer a N800 with these specs...
