After a tiring but exciting trip, I'm back home. This is the only time I got to take decent pics of the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet -- angles, what's in the box, and comparison pics with the Nokia 770 and the Nokia N800. I hope you enjoy them. Initial impressions coming soon. Read the full article. (http://www.internettablettalk.com/2007/10/18/nokia-n810-internet-tablet-hi-res-pics/)

Awesome pics Reggie! Nokia sure make very nice looking devices that do very nice things.

Great pictures.

Quick question: Is the holding arm, a third party one? or specifically made for the N810 ? If so, would that included in the N810's box?

It's a Nokia branded holder. It was built so you can slide up the screen so you can use the keyboard if necessary.

Any chance you could compare a full-res video playing on both the N800 and N810 to see if there's any change in the video bandwidth issue?

That thing looks slick. Those pics remind me how massive that hump on the N800 is and how uncomfortable it was in my front pocket :P

More I see N810, more I like its look. Now real issue is how OS2008 on it compares to OS2008 on N800. To real tests we have to wait few weeks...

The N800 and the N810 uses the same processor so performance should be exactly the same.

AAAAh, that last picture.. I'm surprised Nokia didn't manage to fix the single silliest little mistake on the N800: The pouch is missing a flip to close it! I used to lose my N800 out of the pouch (the pouch stayed safely in my jacket pocket because of being suede) until I learned to pick up things by bending knees instead of bending my back. Looks goofy, but what do you for your NIT these days..

Darn it Reggie... I was so set on sticking with the N800... Now after those pics, I'm starting to think differently. If only I had an extra $500.00 laying around.

So the N810 stylus is flat as the 770 one.
Uhm... I think I like more the N800 one, even if it is shorter (is it?).

I'm still from the old school in that I liked the hard case cover.

Yeah, really wish it had a hard cover as well, but the 810 is looking really sweet. I really don't need another GPS but if localized web takes off (by "sensing" your position via the GPS) that could be really cool.

Oh, did you get a chance to "hear" it? Do those side speakers work/sound as good as the front-firing ones on the 800?

Looks like the pouch has an elastic on one side, so perhaps it does not slip out as easily accidentally.

The holding arm could come in handy also e.g. attached to the kitchen wall (I like to cook and getting recipes of the web is one of my favorite uses for my 770 :)). Would need to buy an extra one though, as one would go to the car..

The N810 is a very tight fit inside its pouch, it's not going to fall out like the N800. The dark gray band you see in the picture is elastic, as you slide the N810 into the pouch it expands and grips the device.

I can turn the pouch upside down and shake it and the device still doesn't come out by itself.

Ah, that's good. Thanks for the update on the pouch.

Confirmed (http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/maemo/developers/28987) on the dev mailing list that the N810 still has the same problematic video bandwidth issues as the N800. :( No great surprise really, the N810 is just an N800 with GPS, keyboard and a few other tweaks (mostly bad, ie. no FM radio and miniSD instead of SD etc.) - the device would probably need a wholesale redesign to overcome the video bandwidth issues, which may have introduced more compatability issues than Nokia thought worthwhile.

The next-gen NIT must eradicate this video bandwidth problem - there really will be no excuse not to have eliminated it.

The only thing you're missing is that the N810 has that transflective screen, which makes it really hard to pick the N800, though its become a tough choice with the features that are cut out.

Looking at the car mount accessory, how is this supposed to be mounted? Aren't these usually mounted to the dash or windshield with suction cups. From what I can tell, it just has holes that you drill screws into the opposing surface. I've never owned a GPS so I really don't know.

Does anybody know how the d-pad feels. Was just thinking with the keyboard out and using the right part of the keyboard as buttons, this thing might make it easier to play games. Start tweaking emulators now.:D

It's easier to play games on the new dpad, when the midbutton is pressed down at all times. The dpad borders are a bit too slippery, but it's pretty good for the emulators. Up is a little bit too difficult to press to my taste because of the location of the button.
