View Full Version : Disapearing Desktop Applets
Has anybody else had a problem with all the applets on the desktop disappearing?
I'm running 2008 on a N800 and started to add the missing lib, etc to get Maemo Mapper, Kagu, UKMP, etc working.
So I added some bora lib's but now randomly at least 3-4 times a day all my applets disappear from the desktop the only non default applet is IpHome.
I've the sama problem with my N800 and the os2007. Sometimes, randomly, all the desktop applets disapper...with a reboot they came back.
What can i do?
I don't know if it's related or not, but every time I use the control panel applet to show or hide a plugin icon in the taskbar, all desktop applets disappear (unchecked, size and position reset). Very irritating :-)

i have the same problem with OS2008. Anyone found a solution or known cause?
Usually when applets dissapear also the non-default "status" applets dissapear (volume/brightness control and clock)

If you have the 'large statusbar clock', get rid of it - it's responsible of a memory leak that resets your desktop.

To bring everything back without resetting, go to Control Panel > Panels.. click on OK. This should reset the desktop and reload all of your status bar icons. Then you have to go to Home > Select Applets... and reselect the desktop applets you want to use. Usually they should load in the last place you had them.
after owning both a n800 and a n810 i have learnt the following
for good day to day use and long battery life
1.no desktop applets
2.no status bar applets-use whats their
3 minimum .number of apps no browsers---tear midori or arora
4.no extra devel
5 leave unit on all the time
6,for music use media player--no canola kagu etc...youamp the best if you must
7. feedcircuit for rss
8.streamtuner and streamripper work for free music download
9.agps and minigps for n810
thats it --keep it simple
the rest is not worth the bother

This is not the case on either of my tablets.
