Anyone know of other themes that can be applied other than the preinstalled ones? I noticed in the new documents from Maemo documents that new themes are discussed.

Thanks..

Here's just a test theme that you can try out. It's modified version of the blue theme with just 11px fonts. You need to have root access to apply the theme though.

Installation is as follows:

download the theme zip from: http://www.helsinki.fi/~konttori/MediaConverter/theme_test.zip

Connect your 770 to your comp. Unzip the file to the root of your mmc.

Disconnect 770. Open xterm (you must be in rd mode or otherwise have root access).
Execute following commands:
sudo gainroot
cp -R /media/mmc1/theme_test /usr/share/themes/theme_test

Ok. Theme is now installed. Close xterm. Open Control panel and go to personalization. Choose the new theme, cleverly titled: Urhon testiteema (which incidentally stands for Urhos test theme in finnish).

You're done.

forgot to say that that theme also modifies top bar slightly to give 9 more vertical pixels to applications. it was just a test modification, but works well.

Sounds interesting, but the link seems to be dead?

No problem, I found the link in your other post - great work, I love it!

Tried everything. Caused my 770 to continously reboot. Will try again though. HMmm...Thought I did everything as explained, seemed simple enough.

OK, well got it to work that time. Think I fat fingered "theme" when it should have been "themes" in the user/share directory. Looks good. Thanks for the time and assistance.

i did the same fat fingering yesterday. unfortunately i had no backups of the device... i hope you did!

I did. That brings me to an interesting question. When backing up the device, it seems to remember the theme, or at least the picture and settings. Does the back up include the themes? Or, if I backup the device with this new theme, and then do a restore, will it cause the device to twitch? Anyone run into this yet?

Could you put the 11pt theme back up please? I had to reflash so I'd like to apply it again.

You could always use the theme maker. ;)
You could getit here: http://www.helsinki.fi/~konttori/MediaConverter/ThemeMaker.zip

But in case you just want to go for the smaller fonts and not start piping up your 770, then here's a theme just for you: http://www.helsinki.fi/~konttori/MediaConverter/Andys_Theme.zip

How to install?

Unzip directly to your mmc. Disconnect after done (and please make sure it's really done and not flushing some cache... or flashing awaits).

Open xterm
sudo gainroot
cd /media/mmc1/Andys_Theme (notice capital letters)
sh ./install.sh
and then wait a sec and after it's done, close xterm. It will alert that it can't remove existing theme, but that's just because it supports updating themes as well (which is nice when you are testing a theme)
Switch to your new and cool Andys Theme.

I was also kind enough to test the theme, so rest assured that it works.

Thanks! I did try ThemeMaker actually, but I use MacOSX and it doesn't appear to run on that OS.

And irritatingly, Apple limit Java 5 to Tiger; leaving us Panther users stuck with the perfectly usable 1.4.2 (admittedly, generics are nice - not so sure about autoboxing).

Oh, what a shame. It *should* work, but perhaps it's still got some issues.

It's tiger only, that's at least one issue. Do you use panther / have java 1.4 installed? Could be that. Once it's got a fullish feature set, I'll then try to make it osx compatible.

I've been making a million changes to it today as well and it seems to be coming along nicely. If you are into making a theme, you can also just edit the image file, send it to me and I'll send a converted theme of the image for you.
