How would I go about doing that?
I believe there is a greasemonkey script that will allow you to do that.
Yes, it saves it as an FLV file and can be opened in microB web browser IIRC.
Go to userscripts.org and search for YouTube -- the script adds a download link which allows users to download the video as FLV

Canola2 when the Youtube plugin for it is released? http://www.marceloeduardo.com/blog/design/user-interface-design/youtube-for-canola2-plugin
Or you could go on youtube, copy the link of the video you want, then go to http://downloadyoutubevideos.com/ and then paste your link and download the .flv file that the site gives you. Works fine wih Mplayer :)
This is how I do it. Go to http://ytpocket.com type in your keywords and search for videos. when the results appear click on the arrow down icon below the preview images to start download. files should be saved as .flv format by default. if not you need to rename them. they open fine with mplayer. you can even stream them while downloading if your connnection is fast enough.

UKMP (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2007/ukmp/http://) anyone ?
UKMP is a media player. It focuses on fast response, ease of use and visualizing your music and video collection in an intuitive way. UKMP requires python (and mplayer for videos). "Includes UKTUBE (http://konttoristhoughts.blogspot.com/2007/06/uktube-smooth-playback-of-youtube-files.html)"
I use a couple small bookmarklets to do this.
Grab 'em here (http://dave.brittens.org/uncategorized/2008/03/05/download-youtube-videos-with-a-simple-bookmarklet/)
If you're using Flashblock, make sure you allow the video player object to load before you open the bookmark, or else the download will fail with a 403. And you have to be actually viewing the YouTube page for the video - it doesn't operate on embedded players in other web sites.
After you've snagged a video, MPlayer does a superb job of playing them back smoothly.
