what format is the site streaming? That matters...if you research mplayer you will find it's possible to use xterm (the command line in case you are new to Linux like I am) to stream the channel/program.

Some caveats...the NIT's are somewhat fussy about video. You will likely not be able to stream HD stuff w/o using a "man-in-the-middle" to re-format the content for the NIT on the fly or so you can d/l the video. I have not found anything that can receive a format and spit out a re-encoded stream on the other side on-the-fly. But you would think it has to exist...somewhere... ;)

I have found that once I followed the suggestions from the tablet-gawds around here and re-encoded video to something the NIT's like...say 400x240 and a frame rate of about 29.xx (I forget the exact value...) I get GREAT video.

There is an app called Nokia N800 Video Converter that does a fine job and can run in batch mode on your PC. BTW, all conversion is done on a PC of some sort I am not sure of the exact apps for each OS but there are out there...

What I have been doing is ripping streams overnight then I batch convert to something the NIT likes the next night...so I sort of have a nice library I can choose from when I know I might want to use a video on the tablet...

I can say once massaged the video is AWESOME on the N800...sound is usually an issue if you want to use the internal speakers. But headphones/earbuds are great.

Lots of folks will surely be along to fix whatever I goof'd but this is at least a place to being...

EDIT: FYI, I tried to view a couple channels on the site and Media Player tells me the format is corrupted. The site claims WMP format...but something is not kosher. I have not tried using mplayer.

I tend to leave my videos in the original format and use the ORB/Nokia version to watch them on my Tablet. I only carry a few videos on the tablet for those times I am out of coverage. Solves the TV problem as well... (Though I am still trying to find a way to use a USB tuner stick on the tablet...)

That website - sony Tv is hilarious - offers a bunch of links to Windows streaming media. AFAIK there is no windows media plugin for firefox (more or less the browser used in OS2008 on N800) for non-intel based platforms (which the N800 is - it uses a other type of processor then your normal desktop).
Maybe there are other workarounds or tricks to get this working, but I don't know them.

You can use ORB to transcode streams like that to realplayer that the tablet can use. You dont even need a tuner card to run that part of it...

Thanks for the links and the .pls. It works straight away. Thanks again. One question, how do you change the rest of the other channels? I seem to be able to watch Sony only.

Thanks
