What's the main differences between Maemopad+ and Xournal? Also which would be the better choice for drawing flowcharts of ideas () for example brainstorming the design for an internet game?
I prefer xournal over Maemopad+ because with xournal you can save the notes as PDF. This is important to me since with pdf I can open the notes with evince and many other applications as well as email them to any one. Also backing up my notes is easier this way. I also must say the viewing a month’s worth of notes with evince in the portrait mode full screen is great.
I like Maemopad+ also but I am waiting for it to have more save or export features and a little update to its UI. It would be great for quick reminder notes with is side tab layout.
If you have Diablo use the chinook version of Xournal

Craves1, Thanks for your help. Yes the PDF save feature is important as I also got evince installed. I just found another editor called Labyrinth (a mind mapping tool). Do you have any experience with it?

Labirynth - slow up to "unusable" level.
Xournal - better for me than maemopad+ nothing like "database"
which is silly in this kind of app.
Maemopad+ has some smart keymappings but Xournal is better with it's "annotate pdf" feature for me.
Xournal doesn't work right for me under diablo. First when I start it I get an error about not finding an autosave file. Next if I close the app, then start it again, it won't start. I have to reboot to open Xournal again. Anyone else have these problems? I do like Xournal better than Maemopad but stopped using it because of these bugs.

Maybe You've got unstalbe version from diablo-dev repository?
There is a stable one - I've encountered many problems with unstable version.
Stable works ok - I've had only one app shutdown - when used it with multipage drawing without swapfile enabled.

Which version is the stable one and where can we get it?

The stable one is the chinook version. I use it everyday without any problems. uninstall the diablo version if this is what you are using.
You can find xournal 0.4.2.1-1chinook4 here.
catalog name: maemo Extras Devel
web address: http://repsoitory.maemo.org/extras-devel
Distrubution: chinook
components: free non-free.
disable the "maemo extras devel" Distribution: diablo version until you install the chinook version. after yoy install the xournal chinook version you should disable the extras devel repositories if you want a stable system.
